By god’s grace we are sufficiently equipped to treat you. You can stay in any place in india. You do not have to carry any vaccines.

iNSPITE OF all these vaccines, you may fall sick. most people who come with an unprejudiced mindset wtihout any vaccines, enjoy their time here,,,and leave healthier than they came.

pls remember that we indians are not living in the stoneage. if u must…bring along a good med insurance cover. we have world class health systems and hospitals here.

the attempt to pictirise india as a ”sick” place is deplorable to say the least. this is my sole personal opinion.

it’s kinda weird when i realise foreigners need to get vaccinated to come here….

anyways, can’t advise you about that coz my immune system was born and brought up here.

but i would advise you to drink packaged water always (you guys are not used to our tap water, it’ll be damning for your immune systems), and be careful of what you eat. dont eat road-side food – however yummy it is (they are one of the tastiest things in the world) your immune system wont like it. so, unless you want to catch a bad third-world disease, stay away from road-side and cheap hotel food (that includes the fast foods). only five star hotels manage to keep the standards of what is acceptable in the g-8 countries, so stick to those places when it comes to food (you are gonna miss out on a lot of local cuisine, though).

while you are in pune, try to visit the dagdu sheth temple in the camp market area. i’m in pune from the past few months and have found this just one of the nice things in the city.

weather these days is cold around here (talking about tropical climate – if you are from waaay north, you’ll find it hot and humid) so make sure you get some warm clothing unless you want to catch a cold/flu.

if you have bringing children along, be VERY careful – their immune system is doubly susceptible.

I am going in 4 weeks and we were told to get japanese encephalitis vaccines due to the areas we are traveling in. I wouldn’t skip the malaria medication especially if it’s during rainy season, but that is entirely up to you.

You should find a local travel clinic and ask them for any additional information.

those are really all you need. for the mountains some people get japanese encephalitis vaccine, but even that is optional.
do NOT take any anti-malarial drugs. it’s not worth it. the side effects are unpleasant and sometimes dangerous, and it’s not really that common, especially if it’s not the summer. bring insect repellant and a mosquito net (although many places will have one for you). oh and bringing vitamins can be helpful unless you are very comfortable with the food already.
have a great time. if you have time for a short trip, consider other places besides goa. ask other travelers there. cochi in kerala or hampi or some other town like that might be even better.
