~*IaMbLeSsEd*~ asked:

My daughter had her 9 month check up yesterday and the doctor just assumed that I wanted her to get a flu shot. He looked at me like I was crazy when I was hesitant about it. I’ve never had a flu shot; I’ve only gotten the vaccines that were required for school. And I’ve always been very healthy. So I just never gave much thought to getting my daughter the flu shot. I guess I see it as “unnecessary.” But then I found out that due to insurance restrictions my daughter can’t get the flu shot until November, so I didn’t have to make my decision yesterday. I would appreciate comments from people on both sides of this issue. Thanks!

I’ve never had one. Getting the shot does not guarantee that you won’t get sick! And in fact, just getting the shot can make you get sick. And besides, I’ve see some of my coworkers get the shot at work – yikes! lol

Personally, I do not give my children flu shots because they are still made with ethyl mercury, which is linked to brain damage. The routine vaccinations no longer have ethyl mercury in them. I wouldnt give your child a flu shot unless you knew that it did not contain ethyl mercury. I would rather my kid get the flu then brain damage.

Personally, I don’t like them. My family never gets them. My dad actually had a friend who died after receiving his. (He was an older man, though) I think its a personal decision, but I have heard bad things about it.

I would highly recommend taking it, it does not prevent the flu but if you happen to get it then your symptoms are cut in half and you get over it 3 times faster than those who did not.
I skipped my flu shot 3 years ago because I felt like I would do fine, I caught the flu and was in terrible shape my mother who did get the flu shot also had the flu but she did not have half the problems I did. So since then when they first come out, I get it.
Although you might want to reconsider if your daughter is allergic to eggs. An if you have never had it before the first couple days may make you think that you have the flu but its just the vaccine getting into your system.

It depends on what your family is like.

Are there people in your immediate family who are immuno-comprimised?

I have Diabetes, and if I get the Flu, I get very ill, and can possibly die.
My daughter doesn’t get it yet, she’s only 6 months, and I have no idea if I will get it done.

I am always done, as is my husband to keep everyone safe.

I don’t have kids, but from my perspective on the shot, I’d say pass. My husband and I were in the military and were forced to get it every year. We always ended up getting the flu at least several times a year, still felt bad, and were completely miserable. Since we’ve been out of the military (6 years for me, 3 for him) neither of us have gotten the flu. I’m around kids constantly (work in a museum that hosts hundreds of school groups with thousands of kids yearly) and still have not gotten the flu.

It’s a risk in itself. When you do get it, you get sick. I know if we ever have kids, we won’t be giving them the flu shot unless they want it.

I always skip it, for myself and my 3 sons.

Considering that the flu shot still contains mercury (thimerisol) in trace amounts, I don’t care about the amount, the second most toxic substance known to man thimerisol is enough for me to avoid the shot. And the flu shot contains formaldyhyde, and egg.

3 strains are picked by experts from hundreds of strains, rarely do the experts pick the right strains. Even when they do pick the right strains, its only considered about 80 percent effective

A side effect of Guillam Barre syndrome scares a lot of people off.

The flu shot isn’t mandated. The mist is even worse, adequate studies haven’t been done, and its live.

These side-effects have been reported following the flu vaccine:

=Brain and nerve disorders such as encephalopathy
    =optic neuritis
    =partial facial paralysis
    =brachial plexus neuropathy

My person feelings are that the shots are usually last years flu not the current strain(s). I tried one time and I got the flu from it! I’m a health care worker. There’s a link so you can make your own decision.
