Homes asked: I am sure many of you know that there was no decision in the 1919 Stanley Cup finals, due to Spanish Influenza. Many players became ill, and Habs right wing, Joe Hall, had died from pneumonia caused by the flu.
Now when my parents were teens, both of them had Poliomyelitis or Polio (That ages me, doesn’t it?).
Why is it that you never hear about NHL players having Polio back in the day? I guess that NHL had the Jonas Salk’s vaccine before things spread? Am I missing some players that did come down with Polio?
Well, my parents had me later in life (aka-I was a BIG mistake). My parents both have no side effects from Polio. As I had stated before, my father went on to play football in college, and he holds a record for the something-meter dash in the state where he is from, because they changed it to yards after he accomplished his record (or yard to meters, I forget how that worked). I suppose I was wondering if any player came down with Polio while playing for the NHL.
The weather is cold down here right now. I just went outside a moment ago, and it was 8 Degrees Celsius. I had to pull out a sweater this morning to come to work. There is no shoveling here, yet there is a very strong breeze, that is making this chilly weather uncomfortable……I am sure you are laughing at my complaining right now.
