Can you catch the influenza by consuming bird flu infected chicken? If so what is the probability of such a cross-specie infection occurring?

It would be possible to catch it. Just cook your chicken right to help reduce the risk… if you’re getting your chicken from overseas. Also, the risk isn’t all that great if you’re a healthy adult. So far, I haven’t heard anything about the really killer Flu strains comming back just yet.

A healthy adult should be fine and able to fight off an influenza infection, those more at risk are the very young and elderly (also those with impaired immune systems).

you have nothing to worry about. if a chicken comes down with H5N1 it will be culled as current policy holds. and dont worry, so will every other chicken within a certain radius. The virus dont stay in the chicken for long after death. its spread by its poo anyway. And then additionally you’ll be cooking it anyway, so yeah, no worrys. eat away
